The museum is located in the historic centre of Javea in a builing known as 'la casa-palau de Antoni Banyuls' (the palace of Antoni Banyuls). It is one of the towns most important historic buildings. Built by Banyuls - who was connected to King Philip III - in the first half of the seventeenth century, the palace has an impressive Tosca stone facade and is divided over three floors. It was renovated in the second half of the nineteenth century, leaving only one room with original tiles and clay 'mocadorets' in green and white.

Consisting of 10 rooms for exhibitions, of which eight are dedicated to the permanent exhibitions with examples of Javea's Iberian Treasure and Roman and Medieval ceramics, among others.

History and functions
In 1969 a small collection of ethnographic and historical materials was created by a group of young men led by J.B. Soler and J. Celda. This collection grew and eventually ended up in the palace of Antoni Banyuls in 1977, which was aquired by the town hall through the efforts of J. Soler Blasco (mayor of Javea at that time). Inn 2008, the museum was expanded with a new modern building that has improved museum facilities with two new exhibition halls and a conference room.

Alongside the permanent exhibitions, the 'Mvsev' also offers other functions:

1. A Library (with nearly four thousand books)
2. A archeology and ethnography store
3. A small restoration laboratory
4. The 'Herreria' (19th century)
5. Temporary exhibitions
6. The magazine 'Xàbiga'
7. Conference room

In the permanent exhibitions you will find a selection of works by the painter JB Segarra Flames (Xàbia, 1916-1994) and a set of artist's personal items. The top floor is dedicated to marine archeology, with a wide and rich collection of pieces from the coast of Javea reflecting the history of the last 2500 years. A lot of other periods are represented in the museum's collection with examples from following periods: Prehistory, Neolithic (first farmers), Eneolithic and Bronze, Iberian culture (from eighth century BC), Roman (from late 3rd century BC), Medieval (Modern & Andalusina), Contemporary. Materials were recovered in various parts of Javea and surrounding areas like the Cova de la Mina, settlement of Cap Prim and of Punta de l'Arenal-Muntanyar, the burials of the Montgo Cova and Cova del Barranc.

Herreria: In the old cellar you will find the "Fornal" (oven), "the manxa" (bellows), anvils and many of the tools used and produced by the former smithy Minyana workshop located in the "carrer Roques" which ran from the late eighteenth century until the second half of the twentieth. Evidence of production and storage of wine is exhibited here, showing barrels and a large cage press.
